As automobile shows opened in Brussels and Vienna last week, Greenpeace International challenged European car manufacturers to stop undermining a European proposal for more fuel-efficient cars, and instead take real action to lower the climate impact of their fleets.

Does Greenpeace have any practical solutions? I dropped my membership in 1975 when it became apparent that they were not operating in the same universe as I, your humble scientist and technologist. A well-meaning group can do more harm than good, if they don't "get" the science. How much CO2 has Greenhouse "catalyzed" with some of the rants against the power industry. Chasing whalers may make sense than chasing cars.

I understand you're point, but it works both ways. Companies that really have no interest in providing "green" products, still use the label in advertisements. The coal industry has "clean coal" commercials and automakers happily sell many more bohemoth SUVs than compact hybrids.
