Wow! This is great news to us ordinary folk. It will make hydrogen cheap enough to replace fossil fuels.

With the supply of fossile fuel decreasing every year, it is quite easy to think about the cloudy future of our next generations. However, with this technology, it seems that the future is worth looking forward for.

and you guys claim to be in technical fields!!!!!!!!! think about it a bit did you ever wonder how they intend to get the power to generate the electricity to perform the electrolysis? I'm betting the bulk of it comes from fossil fuel so how are we getting ahead? I really wish you guys had paid attention when you were in grade school and high school science classes Jerry ......BSEE MSEE

Good news, but don't forget about the fossl fuels required to generate the electricy used in electrolysis. What is the overall energy saving per kilometer travelled.

Some numbers and quick calculations Electric power plant efficiency coal fuel 40% Nuclear plant 35% Hydro plant 95% Gas fired plants 55% Coal with ultra critical Steam parameters 47% Geo thermal or solar power 15% typical plant efficiency 50% (for a round number ) power distribution efficiency 60 % (for a round number) electrolysis efficiency 85% (using the nanoparticles) hydrogen engine efficiency 28% net efficiency 0.5*0.6*0.85*0.28 = 0.07 total efficiency from the burning fossil fuel to moving the hydrogen car 7 % gasoline engine efficiency (burning fossil fuel for move car) 20% the winner still is the gasoline engine even if we make the fossil fuel power nearly plant pollution free

what ever happened to "what you see is what you get" on the screen ( I hate PCs and microsoft) Some numbers and quick calculations Electric power plant efficiencies coal fueled plant 40% ...... also why do the writers mislead the readers the fuel for the engine is not water as the title states, it is hydrogen..... the hydogen is made from water (burnt hydrogen) by eletrolysis using some other fuel

No MSEE would ignor the cost to discover, drill, transport, tax subsidize, wage nondeclared war, declare to loose war, refine, distribute gasoline to the gasoline engine. No power plant has ever been more than 25% efficient in delivered energy. Perhaps that MS has a reference to martial status?

The real point of the article seems to be that it produces more hydrogen from the same power/current input to electrolysis than other materials at the same price of equipment/materials. I agree that the headline is idiotic, but hopefully the material does at least partially deliver on the detail. What I would see as a model for this is to allow agricultural users of wind power to have a way of storing excess power in a form (generated hydrogen) which could be used in a practical way on their own farm (fuel cells can drive a lot of different farm machinery and equipment) without having the expense and losses of dropping the power into the grid and then pulling it out again later. If it can help make that a reality then it is a significant development, regardless of the over hyped headline.

It's a good news for sure but the fundamental question still exist : WHAT WILL POWER THE ELECTROLYSIS ?? Mos of the time it will come from fossil fuel

Both the title and claims are misleading. What they are claiming is over-unity, without saying it - Claiming that they can split water 5 times more efficiently. This is total non-sense. All that they have is some nano-snakeoil to make a better nickel cadmium battery. Their claim that this bull-crap is less polluting than Lithim Ion batteries, which we all use in Cell Phones etc is a complete hogwash. This is the first time that I heard that Lithium Ion battery is environmentally less friendly than Cadmium in Nickel cadmium batteries. No one belives in this crap. I dont understand why the AAtimes Asia is promoting this fraudulent story for the past 2 months.

Whatever the claim is, let's be positive onthe current technological breakthrough. The title may sounds idiotic, but the essence may shed some lights towards reality. Even Isaac Newton thoeries & finding was'nt accepted initially.. Let's be positive!!
