The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has released a directory of authorized silicon distributors as part of an ongoing effort to counter the rising problem of chip counterfeiting.

Paying the price of the part claimed to be original turned out to be fake or imitation youfeel like cheated by not honest business people who think of making profit by cheating only..

Lamentably, while the industry is looking into China for low-cost production, it is also here that reports of rampant violation of IP rights abound.
As of September last year, the WTO started a probe on the country (see story: WTO launches formal investigation on China piracy case). I hope the issue will be resolved and more stringent IP protection rules be put in place.

Until end users start putting priority on warranty and traceability instead of lowest price, the problem of counterfeit/remarked parts will continue to escalate.These people know what the market price is and yet they insist on giving targets at half the cost of manufacturers quote, simply because a broker has already offered at that price. How many times do they need to receive counterfeit parts before they review their purchasing practices.

The scary thing is that almost anything can be faked in China. And we have only ourselves to blame for wanting to pay less but getting more for a product.
