Nokia Corp.'s announcement that it would pay about $410 million for the 52 percent of Symbian Ltd has sealed the deal to creating the foundation that will develop an open, free-for-use platform for mobile phones.

The embedded community must embrace open source : embedded Linux and variants of that are most important. It is also VERY important that one or two OS's do NOT dominate the market. At the moment microsoft and symbian appear to be most used on handsets: this is disastrous both for the embedded community worlwide and OS development in Asia.
