Jack St. Clair Kilby, retired TI engineer and acknowledged as the first inventor of the integrated circuit, passed away in Dallas Monday (June 20) after a brief battle with cancer. He was 81.

PAPER CHIPS?? With very recent news that TI is honoring Jack Kilby by establishing "Kilby Labs" -- I was curious when Jack passed away, which brought me to the obit above that Spencer Chin nicely crafted. I did notice, however, what appears to be a typo in comparing the size of Jack's seminal IC to "half the size of a paper chip" -- which I presume should have been "half of the size of a paper clip." Perhaps Spencer's copy editor was prescient as we should not be surprised to see a future innovator commercialize the manufacture of ICs on paper instead of silicon.
