Hewlett-Packard Labs is attempting to catapult the memristor, the fourth passive circuit element after resistors, capacitors and inductors, into the electronics mainstream.

NOT the best researched article I have read. Significant error 1: MLC flash first shipped in 1997, so this is wrong : "Last year... But in less than a year, flash memories have upped their density fourfold to eightfold by going to 2bit-per-cell and 3bit-per-cell configurations, respectively. That unforeseen leap.."] - It is NOT an unforseen leap, it is part of a expected trend, on what is now 11 year old, 5th generation technology. Significant error 2: Falling for HPs spin. Their cell does NOT use charge, or magentic fields. Chua's memristor is a dimensional accident, and requires a component capabable of both magentic and charge operation. HPs design is phase change resistance and 'memristor' is simply a marketing dept name. The REAL motivation HP has for coat-tailing on Chua's work, has to do with patent avoidance. (and some marketing spin). Someone else has patents in this area, and if they can push back the invention-time-line to Chua, those patents are void. HP Only have to fool a few journalists, and courts with this nonsense.
