more and more Taiwan manufactuers go about settting up factories in Mainland, though. Their mainboard is widely using in every Chinese family. Their chip can't match with USA and other the west countries. Skorea's products is cheaper.

1.The real reason for chip manufacturing in China is not for cost, it is for duty/tax. Chip manufacturing is capital and technology intensive industry and uses not much man power, and the finished good is high value/bulk ratio, low shipping cost too. It is the tax/duty forces those who want China market to manufacture in China, if the foundry customers' end customers are not in China, there is no point to manufacture in China. 2. Globlefundry's heavy weight manufacturing sites are in US, recently bought Charter is financially shaky and doesn't have leading edge technology. If chip fundry in China has benefits they should acquire SMIC in China instead of Charter in Singapore.
